ECCT Changes at Companies House
The ECCT Verification Regulations, (Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act) is a UK law that aims to enhance corporate transparency and tackle economic crime. As a result, Key changes implemented in 2025 include identity verification for directors and People with Significant Control (PSCs) of new and existing companies, and the introduction of a new offence of failure to prevent fraud.
Accordingly, as part of the UK Governments continued efforts to improve corporate transparency and tackle economic crime, significant changes are coming to company incorporations and filings during 2025. Consequently these changes will impact how company officers and people with significant control are verified. This is what you need to know and how Tax50 can support you through these changes.
ECCT Verification Regulations for Directors, PSCs, and LLP Members
Above all during 2025, every individual involved in a company formation or ongoing management must undergo identity verification before any application can be submitted to Companies House. This includes:
- Company directors.
- People with significant control (PSCs).
- LLP members.
As a result, this verification step is a legal requirement and must be completed before:
- Incorporating a new company or LLP.
- Appointing a new director, PSC, or member.
How Verification Will Work by using Gov.uk
Consequently, you will be able to verify your identity directly through the Gov.uk portal, using a secure government service. Once verified, you will receive a Personal Verification Code. This code can then be used to confirm your identity when:
- Registering a new company.
- Appointing new directors, PSCs, or members.
- Making other filings with Companies House that involve individuals.
Storing and Reusing Verification Codes with Tax50
Tax50 will support the storage and reuse of your Gov.uk Personal Verification Code for any future incorporations or filings made through Tax50. As a result of this:
- You wont need to re-verify each time you use our service.
- You can easily appoint verified individuals by selecting their stored verification details.
- Your filings will be faster and fully compliant.
The Role of Tax50 as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)
As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), Tax50 is authorised to carry out identity verification on your behalf. This is ideal if:
- You're unable to verify using Gov.uk.
- You prefer to complete verification alongside your incorporation process.
- You want hands-on support for more detailed filings.
These identification and verification procedures must be satisfied before TAX50 can incorporate a Limited Company on your behalf. To satisfy our ECCT and AML responsibilities Tax50 will conduct an electronic check to confirm your identity. This electronic check will solely be used for anti-money laundering (AML) and ECCT purposes. The report will be recorded as a 'soft touch' on your credit file but that will not affect your credit score. The identity report will be held for the duration of the engagement and for five years thereafter and then destroyed in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act.
